Gerhardt International has introduced the High Blade Flexi, a flexible die with a cutting height up to .035”. According to the company, the increased cutting height means that thicker materials, such as cardboard and thick labels, can be converted with flexible die and magnetic cylinder technology.

“This means significant gains in our customer’s productivity and profitability, because our new High Blade technology can replace the more costly, traditional flatbed steel rule dies and the traditional solid tooled rotary dies,” says Bo Meyer, Gerhardt’s group technical director. “The ability to convert materials with a caliper up to .035” as well as some materials as thick as .200” – as long as they are compressible to .035” – with our new High Blade technology ensures cost effective converting of materials like board stock, foams and laminates. It also opens up new converting solutions for industries supplying seals and gaskets, medical devices, booklet labels, and folding cartons.”

Meyer says that the pharmaceutical and chemical markets demand a label that supplies product information as well as government requirements. “The High Blade Flexi is a perfect solution for this application. As the thicknesses of the booklet labels and accordion fold labels get thicker and thicker, the die gives the converters that higher cutting profile that allows converting the label – cleanly and efficiently – without the high cost associated with solid tooling.”
